Sandviken

Sandviken is Bergen wearing its history on its sleeve, a stretch of shoreline just north of the centre where white timber warehouses, the sjøboder, stand against the water as they have for centuries. Behind them, steep lanes climb the hillside past wooden houses toward the prestige pockets of Bellevue and upper Sandviken, while the Gamle Bergen open-air museum preserves a whole quarter of the old wooden city. The setting is the draw: Mount Fløyen rises directly behind, its trails and funicular minutes away, and the fjord-side promenade leads straight into the centre. For investors, Sandviken combines heritage cachet with some of Bergen's most reliable long-term rental demand. After a near-10% jump in city prices in 2025, entry costs have risen and yields stay modest, and as everywhere in Norway, foreign buyers face no interest relief and residency-based bank lending.
