São Martinho stretches west of the historic centre toward the coast, combining modern apartment blocks with the resort-like Lido fringe and the black-sand-and-pebble Praia Formosa. Forum Madeira shopping, multiple schools and good bus links make it a practical, family-oriented base. It is one of Funchal's most prestigious and sunniest areas, popular with younger families and professionals who want larger homes and beach access without the Old Town's tourist density. Entry-level apartments here are among the more attainable in the city.
