Hadar HaCarmel spreads across the middle slopes of Mount Carmel, once Haifa's bustling commercial core and still one of its most diverse and affordable districts. Its streets hold a remarkable concentration of Bauhaus architecture from the 1930s, the historic Talpiot Market, and a low-cost, international street life that draws students, artists and immigrants from across the world. The area is in the early stages of regeneration, with renovation and urban-renewal programs slowly lifting its stock.
