Staré Mesto

Staré Mesto is the jewel of Košice. Eastern Slovakia's grandest pedestrian street, Hlavná, runs the length of the Old Town past the soaring UNESCO-listed St. Elisabeth Cathedral, the State Theatre and the famous singing fountain, lined with cafes, boutiques and some of the country's best restaurants. Behind the main street, 19th-century tenement blocks and restored carriage houses hold turnkey flats with vaulted ceilings and courtyards. It is the cultural and tourism heart of the region. For investors the appeal is short-let income and heritage scarcity in the area's fastest-appreciating market; the cautions are smaller historic flats, the constraints of renovating protected buildings, tourist-season fluctuations, and Slovakia's exposure to EU rate and economic cycles.
