About Isola

Just north of Porta Garibaldi, Isola began as a factory-worker neighbourhood whose isolation later attracted artists, street painters and creatives, an energy still visible in the murals along Via Carmagnola and around Frida, the area's beloved café-bar. Independent boutiques, design studios and hidden galleries give it a distinctly bohemian-but-polished feel. The district is now defined on the skyline by Stefano Boeri's Bosco Verticale, the award-winning residential towers planted with thousands of trees, sitting beside the Biblioteca degli Alberi park and the Gae Aulenti business cluster. Metro M5's Isola station and nearby Porta Garibaldi keep it minutes from the centre, blending old Milanese trattorie with one of the city's most photographed modern landmarks.
